relaxed routine

When it’s hot and sticky outside, the last thing you want is to feel the weight of heavy products on your skin.

First thing, convert to something that feels like skin, yet still gives you the coverage you desire. Prep skin with products that do double duty, like tinted moisturizers with SPF (Coola Mineral Matte Tint with SPF 30 or Coola Mineral Rose Tint, SPF 20–both provide moisture, antioxidants, sun protection and a little sheer tint).

Also, using a primer will help even skin tone and texture without adding color (Stratus Instant Skin Perfector from Vapour Organic Beauty).
Find multi-taking products for adding color. This makes summer makeup extra-easy (Vapour’s Aura Multi-use Blush stick for cheeks, eyes and lips– favorite color picks for summer: crush, spark, courtesan and foxy).
Give eyes a sheer wash of color with fun in the sun shades that bloom, inspire, bronze and twinkle. Add a little mascara and have fun!

summer color is blooming

The go-to color for summer 2014 is a combo of purple, fuchsia and pink that draws you in with beguiling charm; it’s called radiant orchid. If you have not seen this hue yet, you will soon. It has a magical warmth that intrigues the eye and sparks the imagination (pantone.com).

For starters, color is fun! It says “confidence” and offers a little something that makes you feel good.  You’ll find this color and shade variations for eyes, cheeks and lips popping up everywhere.

Pair your favorite variation of radiant orchid with yellow, gold, green, blue or pink. Add neutral tones to soften and make bright hues feel more wearable, or don’t, be bold.

happy summer!

best at bronzer

Bronzer is a real mainstay for spring and summer, and creating that sun-kissed look. A great bronzer, applied correctly, is a beautiful way to enliven your complexion. Here's how you can achieve an easy, totally natural look with creamy or powder bronzer formula:

creamy bronzer

Apply product directly to forehead, cheekbones bridge of nose and chin, blend into skin with fingertips for a fresh-from-the-beach look. Try beauty editors’ favorite obsession, Vapours’ Solar Bronzer. Solar is no ordinary bronzer. This quick, easy stick application will give you stunning sun-free color with environmental antioxidant protection! Can also be used on shoulders, décolletage, and legs. This Vapour favorite will never leave you streaky, orange or fake.

powder bronzer

With a big, fluffy brush lightly apply to the areas of your face the sun would naturally highlight; sweeping color over forehead, cheekbones, bridge of nose and chin. Try sheer textured mineral bronzer like Beyond Bronze from Senna Cosmetics (available at sarimotley studio), a neutral tone for all skin. This trio allows you to create your perfect bronze with soft vanilla and golden bronze tones.

It's easy to get glowing with bronzer. Find your favorite formula at sarimotley.com or sarimotley studio

smart summer

Is your skin ready for summer? Making a few adjustments is key to breezing beautifully through the heat, humidity and sun. Of course you are using SPF for your face daily, correct? And on your body too, right? Also, remember to stay hydrated inside and out by drinking plenty of water. These daily do’s will help keep you looking “cool” despite rising temps.

use spf daily even when not at the beach or pool

After a bath or shower, slather on a body lotion, with SPF, to exposed areas (hands, arms, chest, etc.) to protect and moisturize. Two to try: Coola’s Mineral Body Unscented (limited edition) or Coola’s new Plant UV Collection (coming soon). And a favorite for the face, Coola’s new Matte Tint, SPF 30.

make makeup simple

Go for creamier formulas with your foundation (Atmosphere Luminous Foundation) and blush (Aura Multi-use Blush). They are really durable and easy to blend, and when formulated with skin-loving organic ingredients (like those in Vapour Organic Beauty), an uncompromising bonus for your skin.

blot not blotchy

Keep a pack of blotting papers in your handbag. These are great for absorbing oil and sweat and will refresh your look without the blotchiness of powder. Try Tatcha Beauty Papers made from oil-absorbing abaca leaf.

summer makeup tips

scorching temps, barely bikinis and melting makeup? who's ready for summer?

summer fun has its place, but your makeup does not have to melt off your face. keep makeup simple and beautiful with these five face-friendly tips.

1. prime time
neglecting this savvy makeup step is so yesterday! a great makeup primer will provide a smooth and ready surface for longer-lasting makeup. try VAPOUR favorites stratus instant skin perfector and stratus soft focus instant skin perfector. these 3-n-1 moisturizer, primer and no-color foundations balance skin for a smooth, luminous look on their own or as a beautiful base for color makeup.
2. living light
use foundation to even skin tone and perfect. find light-as-air formulas like VAPOUR atmosphere luminous foundation that gives skin a luminous glow and natural finish.
3. beautifully bronzed
a bit of bronzer = fresh-from-the-beach glamour. apply to the high points of your face where the sun touches: forehead, cheekbones, chin and nose. use VAPOUR solar translucent bronzer for a sun-kissed glow on face, shoulders, decolletage and legs.
4. multi-tasking
go natural looking or add a pop of color, but keep texture simple with easy-to-blend cream (VAPOUR aura multi-use blush for cheeks, eyes and lips) or soft mineral cheek colors.
5. soft set
set it and forget it. a light dusting of oil absorbing powder keeps makeup fresh. sarimotley favorite: secret set mineral buffing powder glides over foundation with a candlelit finish.

Summer's Must-Have Makeup

With Summer comes longer days, lighter fabrics (weight and color) and LIGHTER makeup. Try these tips for sizzling summer days or sultry summer nights:

I find that most gals like to keep their makeup simple when it's hot outside. Try this easy-as-pie routine for a day-time look, it's perfect.
  • Sheer foundation. I love this one with spf 20, and it's packed with antioxidants as a great-for-your-skin bonus.
  • Bronzer. This is a "must-have makeup", it will enliven any complexion. Swoosh a little over the areas of your face where the sun would naturally highlight your features – forehead, cheekbones, nose and chin.
  • Lips. Try your favorite color in a sheer shade or gloss - somethings that says "airy smooth", not "barely moves".
  • Mascara. You can add definition to your eyes without color. Curl your lashes with an eyelash curler. Black mascara works for most, but fair should opt for brown. Sweep the mascara brush back & forth (like a windshield wiper), then one horizontal swoop to evenly distribute the color.

For Summer nights it's OK to "glow" for the glam, here's how:

  • Eyes. To create gorgeous eyes that speak for themselves, apply a medium-toned shadow lightly over the lid, and blend a darker color into the crease.
  • DO NOT forget mascara at night. Remember, mascara is your WOW factor for the eyes.
Curl lashes with an eyelash curler. I like black mascara at night. Start at the lash base and move up beyond the tips to lengthen, wait a few moments then add another coat. If need be, use a lash comb to remove clumps.
  • Highlight. Glow ahead, you can do it... my favorite sheer mineral skin treat will have you literally luminous.
  • Cheeks. Look for blush colors that say, "I love to vacation" sans the sun damage.
  • Bronzer. When bronzing for evening, follow the same steps you would for day, but add a little extra on collar bones, back, etc. go on now, get glowing...
